Yesterday, Saturday April 14th our chapter supported the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital and their Celebration of Life Butterfly Release event. We could not be more proud of our chapter and more specifically Chef Marcela Guzman who lead and supported this event yesterday and the past several years. Food production was supported by our Chairman and Past President Chef Eric Schlossberg and his team of students. Our chapter President Chef John Noble Masi supported with set-up and service. Our board Secretary Millie Sayegh supported with prep, service and the attached pictures. Special thanks also to the many schools that contributed time, space, and or food for this event: McFatter, Sheridan, Atlantic, Olympic Heights, Miami Dade Culinary, The Art Institute, San Ignacio University and Florida International University. In return for our efforts we are pleased to share that the hospital will be donating $200 towards ACF Student Membership Scholarships. We will award two of these scholarships at our next meeting on April 24th. Thank you again to all involved and especially to Chef Marcela Guzman. We are so grateful to have you as part of our chapter team!
Most people do not look forward to Friday the 13th however the patients and families of the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital had a special night of food, music, entertainment and gifts at the annual “2017 Prom Night” held last week. This event was held for adolescent patients of the Hospital who have missed their own prom due to unfortunate medical circumstances that prevented them from going.
The Broward County ACF hosted the plentiful food offering with hot dogs, loaded nachos, grilled cheese and mac-n-cheese. The dessert table was a chocoholics dream and the freshly made cotton candy was a huge hit! The opportunity of being part of this great gathering was headed by chefs Marcela Guzman and Alicia Holcomb Stern. A special shout out goes the large amount of student volunteers that served the food. The students represented the International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, McFatter Technical School, Sheridan Technical College, San Ignacio University, Dillard High School and Olympic High School.
The Broward County ACF chapter wishes to extend their gratitude to the numerous people and organizations that donated all of the food ingredients.
This was a special evening for the attending guests however we hope that the need for future events lessens as treatments and cures for childhood disease improves.
